In her new video artwork “5 Minutes of Fame,” painter Janina Roider delves into a parallel world, indulging her dream of becoming a musician. Her persona is digitally captured and brought to life through 3D rendering, precisely reflecting her movements, appearance, and even her distinctive curly hair. Adopting the persona of “Jaye Roy,” she becomes a singer, guitarist, and performer in a living room setting adorned with personal touches. Through her avatar, Roider embodies unfulfilled desires and dreams without fear or self-criticism, seamlessly merging the digital with the analog, much like her paintings and drawings. The song lyrics, penned and sung by Roider, humorously and critically examine success and fame, echoing Andy Warhol’s assertion that “fame is just a sacred whore.” The catchy refrain, “one two three four five,” invites listeners to reflect on the fleeting nature of fame, encapsulating the connection between music and the performing arts. So, put on your headphones and join in… “one two three four five…” Ingrid Lohaus
